Lake Victoria Tragedy: Why is army taking instructions from Brian White?

“What’s Brian White doing on a military vessel carrying out a rescue operation?”

That was the question that lingered in mind of several people after a picture of Brian Kirumira aka Bryan White was seen issuing instructions to a combined rescue unit of the police and the army on Lake Victoria during rescue operation of the ill-fated fate.

The team comprised of well-wishers, fishermen and locals who were searching for bodies of victims of the last Saturday night boat cruise gone wrong.

At least 35 bodies have been retrieved from water and 27 survivors have been rescued. The boat, the MV Templa was headed to Mutima Beach with about 120 passengers on board before it capsized in the middle of the lake.

The unit was under the command of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces Major, only identified as Akoragye.

The marine vessel on which Bryan White was seen issuing instructions is similar to the vessels that were in June this year Commissioned by president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Bryan White who camped at the beach since the incident on Monday offered divers Shs100,000 for each body retrieved. That after bashing whoever was on the boat, including Buganda Prince David Wasajja, as irresponsible.

He also played key role in organising the locals to manually pull the wreckage of the boat, and was constantly, screaming ‘Pull, Pull’.

A an MV Kalangala crane that was brought late Tuesday to try and lift the boat’s ruins from the deep of the lake was deemed weaker that the local manpower under the command of Whyte.

The question still remains; “What’s Brian White doing on a military vessel carrying out a rescue operation?”
