Democratic Party (DP) President General Norbert Mao has succumbed to pressure from the DP youth and decided to ditch the opposition coalition candidate and rally behind the official party flag bearer in Arua municipality by-election.
Mao who had previously endorsed independent candidate Kasiano Wadri has made U turn and is currently camped at Arua municipality canvasing for votes for the musician Madira Kennedy known by his stage name JM Kennedy who is running on the party ticket.
Mao today Sunday addressed a group of supporters at Awindri market where he urged members to vote of Madira because he is young, talented and capable of presenting people’s issues to the parliament.
His decision to back the official DP candidate comes after a protest from group of youth led by National Youth Coordination of DP Mr. Christopher Okidi who blamed the party for sideling the youth.
According to the meeting held at Mao residence in Gulu, opposition leaders led by the People Democratic Party Pastor Abed Bwanika resolved to back the independent Kasiano Wadri.
The Decision angered DP supporters especially the youths who termed the act as betrayal to those who committed themselves to serve the party.
DP youth protested the move saying the party leaders are not considering the strengthening of the party at the grass root by pushing aside what would be the future leader.
The youth further accused the party of not recognizing their efforts and have relegated them in to mere messengers. They promised to take appropriate action against the party leaders.
